Let me get this out of the way up front. Rahsaan Patterson is my favorite male solo artist, and he has held that position for several years now. Any male solo artist who is even thinking about taking that slot should purchase “After Hours” and study the art of making high quality Grown Folks Music. Note to aspiring male artists reading this: After the purchase of “After Hours” you still have a longgggggg way to go buddy, but purchase “After Hours” anyway.
“The Only One for Me” properly opens the disc by setting the tone, letting you know that the cd will be grown, sexy and fun all at the same time.
“I Always Find Myself” is in one word….funky. I don’t use the word funky loosely, either. You can almost visualize Rahsaan and the background singers standing at microphones while onlookers bop their heads hard to the beat.
“So Hot” lets you know that Rahsaan is not just the master of slow jams. He will also provide the opening track to ask that person you’ve been checking out across the room for a dance.
GFM had the honor of speaking to the r&b group “The Rude Boys”. The group is best known for their hits “Written All Over Your Face” and “Are You Lonely For Me?”. Group members Joe N Little III and G. La Beaud spoke with us about everything from their official return to the music scene, their new single, their film projects, their influences, and their fond memories of our Artist of the Month Gerald Levert. Listen in to find out what G. and Joe have been up to and to hear little known facts about Gerald Levert.
The current single “Swagg On” is available at ITunes and Amazon.com. Also, be sure to be on the look out for their full-length cd release in Summer 2012. To keep up with updates on their project, check out their official website The Rude Boys Online and follow them on Twitter.
Our friends over at YouKnowIGotSoul.com recently caught up with R&B singer Ginuwine and got the scoop on what to expect from the supergroup TGT (Tank, Ginuwine, Tyrese) and his upcoming album Old School Young. Check it out and enjoy.
“Clap your hands y’all, it’s alright…” Whitney with an assist from Wyclef Jean and Bobbi Kristina on “My Love Is Your Love“. “My Love Is Your Love” was her 3rd best-selling single after “I Will Always Love You” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me). And… it’s the jam… Enjoy
Grown Folks Music was living up to its name at the Kiss 104.1 FM Flashback Festival concert in Atlanta, Georgia. Cupid warmed up the crowd nicely and had it on its feet dancing. An ageless Jeffery Osbourne went through the crowd to see who could sing the best “woos” during “You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song)”. It’s always a pleasure to see R&B Diva Faith Evans and the S.O.S. Band brought the funk. Mr. Morris Day, the original purveyor of “swag”, brought the show home with his eternal coolness. Enjoy our pictorial coverage of the event below. (more…)
I remember the first time that I heard this song. I smiled as the lyrics progressed, as Whitney runs down her man’s evening out. I remembered thinking, “busted”! Even though her man’s indiscretions open “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay”, the song is much more than that. The video visuals show Whitney decked out in black leather.
This was key because by the time the tune was released, a lot had transpired in both Whitney’s personal and professional life. The black leather portrayed a strong, confident Whitney. The video was not only a message to her cheating man, but it was a message to the world that affirmed “This isn’t a comeback, because I never left”.
Today we have a double spin/treat for you. Several of Whitney’s singles were actually covers, but Whitney was such an amazing artist that you would have thought the singles were her original songs. “One of Those Days” is one of those tracks that is so breezy and melodic that it immediately mentally transports you to the very places Whitney describes in the lyrics,
